Bengt Gustafsson and Bernd Freytag will discuss the current status of the mysterious and suspiciously strong dimming of Betelgeuse at the end of last year. Viewed from the Northern hemisphere, this top-left corner star of Orion is very characteristic of Northern Winter nights. A major change in luminosity of this star reminds us that life, as we know it, may not be forever. The luminosity is now on the rise again, but the question remains: how was this possible?
