In this talk we will review particle detector models and the protocol of entanglement harvesting, with a special focus on past criticisms present in the literature such as singular and non-local behaviors. Then, we will show that it is possible to obtain particle detector models by considering localized quantum field theories that interact with a free field theory. We show that this analogy holds exactly to leading order in perturbation theory, and that this is the physical origin of the causality violations of the order of the detector size. This analogy also holds in the case of more than one detector coupled to the field, which proves that entanglement harvesting is a phenomenon in quantum field theory, and is not a consequence of non-locality or non-relativistic effects in effective models.
