Title: Tests of General Relativity from the Inspiral, Merger and Ringdown Stages of Binary Coalescences
Abstract: The final stages of the binary black-hole coalescence, during which the objects attain velocities approachinga significant fraction of the speed of light, the gravitational-wave luminosity reaches its peak and a remnant black-holeis formed, offer a distinctive opportunity to probe gravity in the dynamical and nonlinear regime. In this talk, I willdiscuss the tests of General Relativity enabled by the observation of gravitational waves with LIGO and Virgodetectors. The studies will employ both theory-agnostic and theory-specific approaches. To wrap up, I will also highlightthe prospects to investigate the nature of gravity and black holes with even more sensitive experiments set to operatein the upcoming decade.
