Description

Synchrotron radiation dominates the radio sky. It encodes information on the cosmic ray energy spectrum and Galactic magnetic field and is an important foreground for measurements of the cosmic microwave background. Despite its importance for astrophysics, significant uncertainties remain in both the intensity and spectral index of diffuse synchrotron emission, complicating efforts to develop accurate full-sky models of Galactic and extragalactic emission. I will discuss the proposed ARCADE-3 mission to map synchrotron emission at frequencies 3--15 GHz to connect the radio
to microwave regimes and offer new insight into the origin, distribution, and energy spectrum of diffuse synchrotron emission.
