Description

The scattering of the CMB photons off of free electrons contained within the intracluster medium (ICM) of galaxy clusters gives rise to the Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (SZ) effect. Typically, this effect can be separated into two components: the thermal and the kinematic SZ effect. The latter arises from contributions from bulk and internal motion of the gas, including rotational motion. Recent studies have shown possible signatures of a rotation-induced kinematic SZ signal. In this work, we present a stacking analysis to investigate the rotational-kinematic SZ effect in a sample of cluster regions with reported significant rotation using data from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT).
