Description
The birth centenary of quantum mechanics celebrated this year marks not the ground breaking ideas of Planck, Einstein, Bohr and Schrodinger, but the 1925 paper of Heisenberg titled ``On the quantum-theoretical re-interpretation of kinematic and mechanical relationships''. This paper, followed immediately by the works of Born, Jordan, Heisenberg and Dirac in the same year, introduced the complete framework of quantum mechanics, as we know it today. I will describe Heisenberg's main line of reasoning and the ``re-interpretations'' that led to the discovery of quantum mechanics.
