Description
Marginal surfaces may be viewed as quasilocal black hole boundaries and play a central role in numerical simulations of binary black hole collisions. I will discuss recent results on existence and regularity of dynamical horizons and marginal surfaces. In particular, I will show that the trapped region in a Cauchy data set (in "space") is bounded by a smooth marginal surface.
