7.5 ECTS credits
Weeks 14–22, 2026
Hybrid format: taught on site and over zoom.

This advanced course provides a comprehensive introduction to quantum many-body physics, with an emphasis on emergent collective phenomena in condensed matter and quantum field theory. Students will develop proficiency in second quantization, quantum fields, Green’s functions, linear response theory, and apply these methods to key systems including quantum spin chains, Fermi liquids, superconductors, and quantum spin liquids. The course also covers fractionalization, topological order, and emergent gauge fields, offering insight into modern theoretical developments.

In late April, Nordita will support and host a two-day, in-person meeting in Stockholm. The meeting will feature introductory lectures and hands-on tutorials on advanced numerical approaches, including tensor networks and neural-network quantum states.

Assessment includes written home assignments, as well as an oral presentation and a written report for an advanced final project, ensuring a rigorous and interactive learning experience. Overall, the course equips participants with essential analytical and numerical tools for research in theoretical condensed matter physics.
