Description

The Large-Sized Telescope-1 (LST-1), the prototype of the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO), is demonstrating the capabilities of the next generation of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes. Its low energy threshold, fast repositioning and sensitivity to transient sources open new opportunities for very-high-energy gamma-ray astronomy.
This talk will review recent science results obtained with LST-1, including observations of pulsars, Galactic transients and active galactic nuclei, as well as joint observations with MAGIC. Particular emphasis will be placed on the detection of very-high-energy emission from the distant quasar OP 313 and on transient phenomena such as the nova RS Ophiuchi and GRB 221009A. These results illustrate the potential of LSTs to explore the variable and extreme Universe from tens of GeV to the TeV regime, while providing a glimpse of the scientific capabilities expected from the full CTAO array.

About the speaker: Daniela Hadasch is a research scientist in astronomy and astrophysics at the Institute of Space Sciences (ICE-CSIC) in Spain, where she holds a Personal Científico Titular de OPI position. She obtained her PhD in physics in 2013 from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, after earlier studies at TU Dortmund. Before joining ICE-CSIC, she held academic and research positions in Austria, Spain, and Japan, including appointments as Assistant and Project Assistant Professor at the Institute for Cosmic Ray Research of the University of Tokyo.

Her research focuses on high-energy gamma-ray astrophysics, with an emphasis on non-thermal processes in extreme environments and multi-wavelength studies of cosmic accelerators. She is a member of major Cherenkov telescope collaborations such as CTAO and MAGIC, as well as the Fermi-LAT collaboration operating the GeV gamma-ray satellite.
