Venue
Nordita, Stockholm, Sweden
Scope
The Winter School addresses new and emerging topics in quantum matter, centered on quantum materials for emerging technologies. The emphasis shifts from the broader field of quantum information science toward quantum materials, which represent the critical missing ingredient in advancing the next generation of quantum technologies. Materials enable new applications in quantum sensing, medical diagnostics, and quantum communication.
The program covers cutting-edge developments in quantum materials and technologies, focusing on superconducting materials, magnetism, environmental coupling, and quantum sensing. It aims to give a snapshot of the current state of the field and to cast the future trajectory of quantum technologies by examining key challenges and potential solutions.
Themes
- Dynamics and control — Kapitsa engineering of quantum matter.
- New quantum materials discoveries — Dynamic states and light-driven states.
- Simulation and control of entanglement — Generating, simulating, and controlling entanglement in materials.
- Sensing & quantum technologies; environmental coupling and decoherence — Eigenmodes with high quality factor, dissipation-less nonlinearity, tunneling states (TLS), and non-equilibrium / non-stationary fluctuations.
- Quantum metrology — Advances and prospects in quantum sensing.
- Proximity effects — Harnessing spin-orbit coupling and superconductivity; proximity-induced spin-orbit coupling; superconductivity through the proximity effect.
- AI-informed discovery and prediction of materials — Machine learning for the discovery and prediction of quantum materials.

Accommodation
Nordita may provide a limited number of rooms at the Stockholm apartment hotel, Biz Apartment, free of charge, for participants that need support, which will be allocated after application evaluation.
Travel support
Unfortunately, no travel funding is currently available for students. However, if funds become available in the future, we may be able to offer travel cost reimbursement to a limited number of students. Any such support will be subject to funding availability and cannot be guaranteed. We are able to provide travel support for lecturers/speakers. However, we would greatly appreciate it if lecturers who are able to do so could cover their own travel expenses, allowing us to allocate more of our funding towards supporting student travel.
Application/Registration
Applications are now open and you can apply here. Applications deadline is November 29th.
