Description
We use a numerical application of Thomas-Fermi theory to
describe the effects of fluctuations in the local charge
density caused by charged impurities in bilayer and double
layer graphene. In the bilayer, we show that the interplay
between the non-linear screening of the disorder potential
and a band gap causes the electron liquid to break into
coexisting compressible and incompressible regions. For
double layer graphene, we demonstrate that charged impurity
disorder has
a significant negative impact on the existence of
theproposed excitonic condensate.
