Description

Advanced gravitational wave detectors, LIGO, Virgo and Kagra will begin to operate over the next 3 to 5 years. The sensitivity of this network of detectors for compact binary coalescences can vary from 500 Mpc to 3 Gpc depending on the binary component masses. What do we expect to detect and when and what will those detections tell us about astrophysics, cosmology and fundamental physics? These are the questions that I will primarily address in my review but I will also speculate on future prospects for gravitational astronomy. (host: S. Rosswog)
