Scope
The masterclass is a yearly event with the purpose to provide support for participants of the various Nordita teaching collaborations. In particulr the joined Theoretical Phycis Master program with Universtiy of Iceland and the Theoretical Physics Master program of SU. It is also a general platform for didactical training at Nordita and everyone interested in teaching is welcome to participate.
Themes and preliminary program schedule
In 2024 the program will include an interactive workshop on teaching physics at University, as well as the presentations by the former participants of the Icelandic visiting lecturer program.
Among the subjects which we will discuss:
- Available knowledge on teaching Physics at University
- Arrangement of the continuous feedback and evaluation of the students.
- Fostering motivation among the students.
- Estimation of the existing level of knowledge in the group.
- Best practices teaching in small groups.
- Aspects of teaching online
- Interaction with the TA's and administration.
- Planning of the courses and sharing teaching load.
Preparation for the interactive workshop
The mastercalss assumes active participation. In order to get most out of the interactive workshop, please get prepared in advance:
Prepare for a 10-minute mini-lecture on a topic you think you may have to teach in the future. Bring along some sort of presentation medium (powerpoint slides, presi, etc.) and be prepared to use this to “teach” your topic to two of your colleagues.
