Description

I will give an introduction to how quantum gravity emerges from a relatively simple quantum system of an N x N matrix. In the large N limit, it was conjectured that matrix quantum mechanics describes the full M-theory in eleven dimensions. This idea is closely related to an attempt to quantize the membrane in M-theory. I will then talk about recent progress in understanding matrix quantum mechanics at small N and its correspondence to non-Lorentzian quantum gravity.
