Getting here and there

Getting here

To get here from the international airport at Arlanda, which is some 40 km's to the north, there are several possibilities.

Taxi is the most expensive, unless you can share the ride. Most taxi companies are running fixed price rates to the central Stockholm, including Hotel Oden. Check the exact rate with the driver before boarding, it should be around 440 SEK for up to 4 passengers. Most taxis take credit cards.

Express train is the fastest. It gets you to the Central Station in 20 minutes. The cost is 200 SEK, one way, slightly reduced if you buy a return ticket. You buy the tickets in yellow ticket machines on the platform or before you go down the escalator from the airport. Follow signs saying "Express Trains" or "Arlanda Express". The trains normally depart every 15 minutes. From the Central Station you can take a taxi directly to your hotel. You can also go by underground ("T-bana") to "Odenplan", which is right by Hotel Oden.

Airport coach is the cheapest. It costs 95 SEK and takes about 35 minutes. They leave just outside the air terminal doors, normally every 10 minutes. If you stay at Hotel Oden you can get off at "Sankt Eriksplan" and take bus number 4, or the underground ("T-bana"), one stop to "Odenplan", which is right next to the hotel. You can also walk, which takes about 10-15 minutes.

Check the link "Local transportation" for further details on prices, tickets and timetables for buses and underground.

Getting around

An interactive map can be found here. It will open in a new window. In it you will find indicated Hotel Oden, the locations of (some) bus stops, (some) underground ("T-bana") stations and also Restaurant Haga Forum, where we will have the meeting dinner. By clicking on the various items on the left hand side menu, they will be highlighted in the map and some further details given. You can pan, zoom and change the map appearance (map only, image only or hybrid).

It is possible to walk to AlbaNova from Hotel Oden. The fastest track is (probably) the one indicated by a blue line on the map. When exiting from the hotel, go left on Västmannagatan, then take the first right, on Frejgatan. Continue along that street all the way until you reach Birger Jarlsgatan, where you turn left. Walk on until you see a small park in front of you and there are no more buildings on the right-hand side of the street. Turn right around the corner of that last building. Some 30 meters ahead you will find the major road Valhallavägen, and a pedestrian crossing with lights. Wait for green light (careful, this is one of the most dangerous streets in town), then cross the road and turn left, towards a hamburger grill. Just after the grill, the street Roslagstullsbacken goes up the hill to the right. Follow that, and you will see the main entrance of AlbaNova right in front of you at the very top of the hill. This walk takes about 20 minutes.

Another option is to go by bus. Then you take bus number 4 from Odenplan (which is down to the left along the big road outside the hotel), direction "Radiohuset" until the stop called "Valhallavägen" (Just to confuse you: when you go the other way, the corresponding stop is called "Odengatan"), where you get off and wait for bus number 43, which you take to its final stop "Ruddammen". NB: You MUST have a valid ticket in order to board any "SL" bus! Bus tickets can no longer be bought from the drivers! Note also that you have to board the bus through the front door and show your ticket to the driver. Check the link "Local transportation" for more details about prices and tickets.

If you plan to go by public transportation to and from AlbaNova for the meeting sessions, we strongly recommend you to buy the "3-day" card for 190 SEK. It entitles you to unlimited travel with underground, buses and local trains in all three zones during 72 hours. The card can be bought anywhere where "SL" tickets are sold, <it style="font-style: italic;">e.g.</it> the "Pressbyrån" shops which often are to be found in the halls of underground stations. (The only place the "SL" tickets and cards are NOT valid are the transports to/from Arlanda.)
