Description

Scope

This workshop is centered around the new developments in open source infrastructure in numerical relativity and relativistic astrophysics. It aims to be an opportunity for current users and developers to report on recent progress in the Einstein Toolkit (including, but not limited to, new components), to express interests in future development, and to draw up a plan (collaborative as well as financial) to make sure this development takes place. The workshop will also feature an introductory session for new users, which will help to familiarize attendees with the Einstein Toolkit. We would also like to invite the local students from physics and computer science departments to participate.

Notice that this meeting will involve a few talks and status reports but will focus primarily on open discussions and planning.

        AlbaNova

In this talk, I will introduce GRChombo: a numerical relativity code which is capable of performing adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) in a fully automated manner. Our code implements the tried-and-tested BSSN/CCZ4 formalisms on top of a modern C++ framework provided by the Chombo AMR library. This allows many problems to be set up much more straightforwardly, whilst still achieving good parallel performance. I will also discuss additional tools which we have recently developed as part of the package and some of the science that we are currently looking at using GRChombo.
