Description
We investigate the nature of the Mott-insulating phases of
half-filled 2N-component cold fermions loaded into a 1D optical
lattice by means of a low-energy approach and large-scale
DMRG calculations. For attractive interactions, we find the
emergence of gapless and gapped phases depending on the
parity of N. The analogue of the Haldane phase of the
Heisenberg chain with integer spin is stabilized for integer N
with hidden-ordering and edge states.
