consisting of many small local populations coupled by
migration. By means of analytical calculations and direct
numerical simulations of the stochastic population dynamics
I address the question: what is the most likely path to
extinction? With A. Eriksson (Cambridge University) and F.
Elias Wolff (University of Gothenburg). An overview of

Hanski [1].
