Description
The stability of a toroidal field in stellar radiation zone will be discussed by
considering the combined effect of rotation, stable stratification and thermal
conductivity. It will be shown that the influence of rotation depends on the magnetic
configuration of the basic state. If the toroidal field increases sufficiently
rapidly with the spherical radius, the instability cannot be suppressed entirely even
by a very fast rotation although the strength of the instability can be significantly
reduced. Moreover the stable stratification can essentially decrease the growth rate
of the instability. Results from DNS will also be presented.
