Description

Based on the sunspot drawings of Johann Staudacher made in 1749-1799, we derive the solar differential rotation for a period shortly after the Maunder minimum. A Bayesian analysis provides us with the full probability distribution for the unknowns, whence their uncertainties. The study demonstrates how valuable historical observations can be for today's astrophysics.
