Description

Aims: We investigate the shape of the rotation profile of radiative stellar envelopes undergoing gravitational contraction to obtain a better understanding of the dynamics of such objects. Methods: We construct a model of a rotating core absorbing a baroclinic envelope enclosed in an undeformable spherical shell and solve the hydrodynamic equations using the Boussinesq approximation. Results: For small Ekman and Prandtl numbers, we are able to derive an analytical solution of the azimuthal velocity and provide a criterion to determine which one of the two flows, the baroclinic one or the one induced by mass contraction, dominates the dynamic of the envelope.
