Description
The exciting prospect of exploring the Higgs sector of the Standard Model and its presumed extensions
at the LHC has renewed interest in electroweak baryogenesis (EWB) and the electroweak
phase transition (EWPT). At the same time, constraints on CP violation, which is generically present in extensions of the Standard Model, will be tightened by new Electric Dipole Moment (EDM) experiments. Further into the future, there is the possibility of probing a first-order electroweak phase transition directly using the space-based gravitational wave detector LISA.
The promise of data therefore makes timely a detailed
new look at the electroweak phase transition and its
observable implications at a 7-week programme at Nordita in Summer 2009.
Topics will include (but are not limited to):
Improving the precision of baryon asymmetry computations
(charge transport equations, wall velocity, sphaleron rates, ...)
Confrontation between models and data
(Susy models, extended Higgs sectors, EDM's, LHC signals, ...)
Real time dynamics of the phase transition
(turbulence, magnetic fields, gravitational waves, ...)
The goal of this workshop is to bring together physicists working on the various
aspects of the electroweak phase transition in order to encourage interplay between
different areas and stimulate advances to meet the challenges posed by new experimental
data.
