Holography has emerged as one of the most fascinating and powerful new concepts in modern theoretical physics. Some of the most exciting current and future advances in the field build on two amazing prospects of the AdS/CFT correspondence, and thereby the Holographic Principle. On the one hand, the AdS/CFT correspondence offers a way to study strongly coupled gauge theories, and more generally strongly coupled systems with many degrees of freedom. In the last decade, numerous advances have been made towards using AdS/CFT as a tool to describe the behavior of strongly coupled gauge theories, including Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). More recent applications include the so-called fluid/gravity correspondence and the applications of AdS/CFT to strongly coupled condensed matter systems. Conversely, the AdS/CFT correspondence offers a way for understanding the quantum states and the quantum behavior of black holes. Since gravity in D-dimensions can have a dual description in terms of a (D-1)-dimensional gauge theory, which is a well-defined quantum mechanical theory, it can be used as a quantum mechanical description of gravity, and in particular of black holes.
This program aims at bringing together experts in this exciting research field. There will be typically two talks per day, leaving ample time for interaction and collaboration.
